The Commercial Pilots License (CPL)
Possession of this license allows the private pilot to move on into the commercial flying sector, and be able to transport passengers and/or cargo, or undertake technical flying (e.g. surveying or aerial photography) in return for monetary reward.
The Prospective students must: Be at least 18 years of age. Be in possession of a valid PPL. Obtain a General Radio operators license (Course provided). Obtain a Commercial Pilots medical certificate. Pass the CAA prescribed theoretical examinations (8, as for the Instrument Rating course plus an additional 2). Have accumulated 200 hours total flying time, of which 100 hours must have been as pilot-in-command (PIC), with 20 of these hours on cross-country, 10 hours as PIC at night and 20 hours under IF conditions). Pass a practical flight test with CAA examiner. Obtain a letter of recommendation from a grade I or II Instructor. Attaining this license permits the holder to act as pilot-in-command for reward. Renewal of the CPL requires that the holder must have flown a minimum of 3 hours as PIC during the current year, and pass an annual flight test.
